Abstract

161,123. Thornton, A. A., (Vacuumeter Selling Co.). Sept. 10, 1920. Roller bearings for motor-vehicle wheel hubs &c. Tapered rollers 6 run on conical races 1, 2, the inner races being formed with flat shoulders 4<1>, 5<1> at right-angles to the axis of the bearing. Rings 7, 8 with conical surfaces 9, 11 are mounted on the race ring 1 to retain the flat at the larger ends 6<1> and conical at the smaller ends 6<11>. The outer race ring is cylindrical at 13 and flat at the end 15, which abuts against a shoulder in the hub, and the intermediate surface 16 is conical and out of contact with the hub. A flange 12 on the ring 7 excludes dust from the bearing.
