Abstract
160,243. Murray, R. L., and Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Dec. 13, 1919. Head and breast sets; magnetic instruments; receivers; microphones; direct-call systems. - A telephone instrument comprising a receiver combined in one casing with a transmitter, which is strapped against the user's throat, is designed to avoid " howling." A chin-operated switch is provided. The instruments are joined in shunt directly to line, with a common battery connected in series in such a way as to strengthen the permanent magnets. In a diver's telephone. Fig. 2, the transmitter and receiver are mounted back to back and separated by a solid bottom A<4> which, together with the shunt arrangement referred to, prevents reaction between the two instruments. In the receiver, one pole of the magnet consists of a ring F concentric with a core which constitutes the other pole and carries the bobbin G<1>. The diaphragm communicates with the ears through air-passages in a connector K and flexible tubes. The microphone is provided with a switch which can be closed by depressing the push H<1> with the chin. The microphone diaphragm rests against a loose ring C<2> inside the cup C<1>. A strap enables the combination to be fastened round the neck. A one-way ringing circuit comprising a direct-current bell may be provided.
