Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN BIN TRANSPORTERS (71) We, KEITH ROSE, of 28, Rosefield Crescent, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire and CEDRIC GORDON ROUSE, of 12, Grayston Close, Mitton Estate, Tewkesbury, Gloucester, both British Subjects, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to bin transporters and is particularly concerned with the provision of a transporter which can be used for conveying a dustbin from a position adjacent the back door of a house to a position adjacent the front gate of the house since the refuse collection services of a number of local authorities are such that the refuse operatives will not empty the bins unless they are immediately accessible.
A more specific object of the invention is therefore to provide a dustbin transporter on which a dustbin can be placed whilst it is gradually being filled, with the transporter such that an elderly person has little difficulty in transporting the dustbin when filled.
According to the invention there is provided a bin transporter which includes a wheeled frame on which a bin can be placed, the wheeled frame having first and second wheels arranged for rotation on axles located adjacent one edge of the frame, a wall extending around the remaining edges of the frame, a handle pivotally connected to the frame at a position spaced from said edge, a third wheel on the frame adjacent the pivotal mounting for the handle, with the arrangement such that the handle can be pivoted between a support position in which one end thereof rests on the ground and said third wheel is clear of the ground, and a transport position in which said end of the handle is clear of the ground and the third wheel is resting on the ground.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of a bin transporter, both showing the handle in the support position, and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the transporter shown in Figure 1, with the handle in the transport position.
The frame of the transporter shown in the drawings is fabricated from metal strip welded together to provide a platform constituted by a first strip 10 and a second strip 12 extending rearwardly therefrom and at right angles thereto the form a T-shaped support platform. The wall is afforded by uprights 14 and 16 located at the ends of the stem and cross-piece of the T and upper and lower curvate connecting strips 18 and 20 extending from the upright 14 at one end of the cross-piece of the T, past a further upright 22 extending upwardly from the end of the stem of the T to the upright 16 at the other end of the cross-piece. Thus an opening is provided in the wall at the edge of the frame formed by the strip 10 to permit a dustbin to be placed on and removed from the T-shaped platform, part of the base of the dustbin projecting beyond the platform to facilitate manual gripping thereof.
Two wheels 24 and 26 are mounted for rotation about a common fixed axis located parallel to and below the strip 10. A castor wheel 28 is mounted below the upright 22.
A tubular handle 30 is pivotally mounted in a stirrup 32 fixed to the upright 22 adjacent the free end of the stem of the T with a pivot pin 34 carried by the stirrup 32 and passing through the handle 22. The end of the handle 30 which is adapted to engage the ground is in the form of an inverted U to provide two spaced ground-engaging limbs 36 and 38. A rubber or other resilient hand grip 40 is fitted to the other end of the handle 30. A catch (not shown) may be provided at the top of the upright 22 for engagement with the handle to hold it in its support position in which the castor wheel adjacent the handle is lifted clear of the ground.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A bin transporter which includes a wheeled frame on which a bin can be placed, the wheeled frame having first and second wheels arranged for rotation on axles located
