Clearing-apparatus; tension arrangements.- Relates to apparatus for clearing or cleaning yarn of the kind described in Specification 3421/15. The yarn passes through a number of cleaning- units 11, Fig. 2, mounted on a bar 1 and each comprising a bed 10, Fig. 8, and spring-pressed adjustable blades 11<a>, 11<b>, Fig. 6, which grip and hold impurities collected from the yarn, and are arranged so that one half of them, comprising alternate units, is raised alternately with the other half, by means comprising a cam-wheel 55 which oscillates rods carrying stops 53 engaging arms 19 of each unit, to liberate the impurities. The blades are mounted between a washer and a nut 12<a> on the squared portion of a pin 12, which is rotatable in sleeves 14, 15 mounted in the bar 1 and is provided with a block 17 to which the arms 19 are adjustably secured. Lubricant is supplied through a hole in the bar 1 to a space 16 between the sleeves 14, 15. The yarn passes through a tension device 8 at the entrance of the apparatus, and the alternate releasing of the groups of units tends to maintain a constant tension.
