Mines, marine. - Relates to automaticallyanchored mines of the kind in which the mooring- rope drum is locked by a ratchet-wheel and pawl mechanism controlled by a plummet or otherwise. According to the invention, a tooth or pawl 4 is pivoted on a pawl-lever 1 and its end 4<1> engages the ratchet-wheel 5 when the pawl lever is relieved of the pull of the plummet 2 and deflected by the spring 3. The ratchet-wheel turns the pawl about its pivot until a shoulder 4<2> on the pawl bears against an abutment on the lever 1, and at the same time the lever 1 is deflected back and thrust against a fixed stop 7. Henceforward, the locking cannot be disturbed by a pull from the plummet. Before its engagement with the ratchet-wheel, the pawl is held in position by a spring 6; and its motion in the wrong direction is prevented bv a stop 1<1> on the lever. In a modification, a. projection on the left end of the pawl is first engaged by a tooth of the ratchet wheel, and this rocks the pawl to make its end 4<1> engage, with the next tooth of the ratchet-wheel.
