Abstract

The nose support (8) has on its limbs perforated carriers (9) which are directed laterally away from one another and are connected to web holders (5) arranged on the frame. The perforated carriers (9) are held in the frame (7) by a screw (10) in each case. By pressing the surface (11) of the perforated carrier (9) in the direction of the screw (10), said carrier is permanently deformed, so that there is no further play between the frame (7), the perforated carrier (9) and the screw (10). <IMAGE>

Description

(54) NOSE REST FOR SPECTACLE FRAMES (71) We, OPTISCHE WERKE G.
RODENSTOCK, a Kommanditgesellschaft organised under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, of Isartalstrasse 39-45, Munich 5, Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- The invention relates to a mounting arrangement for a saddle-shaped nose rest for spectacle frames which fits over the bridge of the nose from above.
According to the invention, there is provided a saddle-shaped nose rest for metal spectacle frames which fits over the bridge of the nose from above, characterised in that on its shanks the nose rest has projections directed laterally away from one another for location in bushes arranged on the frame, the projections being non-circular in section and being of plastically deformable material, each projection being apertured to receive a fastening element which in use extends transversely through each bush and the corresponding projection.
Due to play of the projection in the frame bush and between the bore and the screw, the nose rest is movable within certain limits with respect to the spectacle frame and can be used in this state.
By applying pressure by means of pliers or the like to the free end surface of each projection connected to the nose rest, the play between the bush and the projection can be eliminated, so that there is then a rigid connection between the nose rest and the supporting arms of the spectacle frame.
This kind of fixing has frequently proved satisfactory in practice for mounting individual side pads on spectacle frames.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows in vertical elevation the middle zone of a metal spectacle frame; Figure 2 shows in section on a larger scale the connection between the nose rest and the supporting arm, and Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing a different state of assembly.
Figure 1 shows in detail the middle zone of a metal spectacle frame on whose lens rims 2 and 3 supporting arms 4 and 5 are fixedly arranged. The supporting arms 4 and 5 terminate in bushes 6 and 7 in which projections connected to the nose rest 8 are engaged.
Figure 2 shows the supporting arm 5 on a larger scale with the bush 7 illustrated in section. The projection 9, which consists of metal, is connected to the nose rest 8 and is held in the bush 7 by the screw 10. The surface 11 of the projection 9 protrudes through the bush 7 and there is a play between the individual parts.
Figure 3 shows the same arrangement as Figure 2 with the same reference numbers.
The surface 11 of the projection 9 has been forced towards the screw 10, however, so that there is no longer any play between the bush 7, the projection 9 and the screw 10.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. A saddle-shaped nose rest for metal spectacle frames which fits over the bridge of the nose from above, characterised in that on its shanks the nose rest has projections directed laterally away from one another for location in bushes arranged on the frame, the projections being non-circular in section and being of plastically-deformable material, each projection being apertured to receive a fastening element which in use extends transversely through the bush and the corresponding projection.
2. A nose rest according to claim 1, wherein the free end surfaces of the projections are crowned.
3. A nose rest according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the projections are in the form of rectangular-section posts.
4. A nose rest substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
