Abstract

Moving-chamber apparatus.-A container for delivering a known or measured quantity of granular material by tilting the vessel from its normally upright position, comprises a storage chamber 4 communicating with a discharge passage 11 through a restricted passage 9. The lower part of the chamber 4 in the salt cellar or like device shown in Fig. 1 is shaped like an inverted cone, the wall 5 projecting into the discharge pocket 10 and forming a continuation of the outlet passage 11. The upper lip 14<a> of the discharge orifice is inclined downwardly to prevent the material from spreading as it leaves the container. When the vessel is tilted, the material that has collected in the pocket 10 is discharged, further flow being cut off by the lower end of the wall 5. In a modification, the container is cylindrical in form, the material passing through a restricted opening formed between a short baffle arranged above and the other side of a false bottom dividing the storage chamber from the discharge passage. In Fig. 7 is shown a device for delivering larger quantities of material, an adjustable slide 37, 38 being provided to regulate the size of the restricted orifice 34 between the chamber 32 and the discharge passage. The horizontal part 38 of the slide is adjustable on a graduated bracket member 42 and is secured in position by a bolt 40 and wing nut 43. The container is mounted on rocking trunnions 45.
