(54) APPARATUS FOR UNTWISTING TWISTED FABRICS
(71) We. MARIANO BASSANI and
MARIO BIANCO. both of Italian Nationality. respectively of Via Div. Alpini. 6
Torre Boldone. Bergamo. Italy: and Loc.
Vaccheria. 7/2 Alba. Cuneo. Italv. do herebv declare the invention. for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us. and the method by which it is to be performed.
to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
This invention relates to an apparatus for untwisting a piece of fabric gathered into twisted for example rope-form and moving longitudinally.
In particular. the invention relates to an apparatus of the type comprising a guide rotatable about its lonoitudinal axis. fabric engagement means carried on the inner surface of the guide. a motor for rotating the guide in either direction of rotation about its axis. and means. disposed downstream of the guide. for detecting the twist in the twisted fabric. and acting on said motor.
The object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus of the aforesaid tvpe which is both functional and of a high degree of reliabilitv. without the fabric being subjected to a tension sufficiently high to damage it.
This object is attained according to the present invention by an apparatus of the aforesaid type. the main characteristic of which lies in the fact that the fabric enclave ment means are constituted bv at least one elongated engagement element disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis of the guide and spaced apart from said axis to such an extent as to compel the fabric to undergo a sinuous path within the guide.
Because of this characteristic. the fabric in twisted form is compelled to follow the rotation of the guide without being subjected to thigh tension.
The invention is described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings. provided bv way of non-limiting example. in which: Figloe 1 is a diagrammatic elevation of the apparatus according to the invention: Figure 2 is a diagrammatic side view in the direction of the arrow II of Figure 1:
Figure 3 is a section to an enlarged scale through a component element of the apparatus on the line II-II of Figure 1: and Figure 4 is a partlv sectional view of one modification of a component element of the apparatus of Figure 1.
In the example shown in Figures 1 to 3.
the reference numeral 10 indicates a fixed support frame which supports a guide 12 rotatable about its longitudinal axis. Said guide 12 is rotated by a motor 14 fixed to the frame 10. and transmitting motion via a belt drive 16 to a pulley 18 rigid with the guide 12.
Said guide 17 supports internallv three idler rollers 20 with parallel axes. These axes lie in a plane parallel to the longitudill- al axis of the guide 12 and are directed transversely to said axis.
As shown in Figure 3. each roller 20 has a cross-section which decreases from the ends towards the centre.
The guide 1' is also provided with three balancing rollers 22 mounted idly therein.
Said rollers 22 are complementary to the rollers 20 and are disposed svmnietricallv therewith about the longitudinal axis of the guide 12.
A fixed structure '6 supports a pullev 24' disposed downstream of the guide 17. Two stirrups 30. 3' are hinged in the manner of a pendulum to said fixed structure 26 about an axis x-x. and carry at their opposing ends two scored rolls 34. The axes of these rolls are parallel and are directed transversely to the hinging axes x-x of their stirrups 30.32.
The stirrup 3() is constituted bv two parts 30ci and 30b hinted together about an axis parallel to the axis of the roll 34. The part 30a is hinged to the fixed structure 26 about the axis x-x, and the part 30b supports one of the rolls 34. Said part 30b of the stirrup 30 is provided. in a position corresponding with its axis hinging to the part 30a, with an arm 36 carrving a projecting adjustable counter-weight 38. The action of the adjustable counter-weight 38 is such as to displace the roll 34 carried by the stirrup 30 towards the roll carried by the other stirrup 32 so as to keep them pressed one against the other.
A sensor (not shown) is disposed adjacent tothe stirrups 30 and 32 in such a manner as to be activated by the angular movement of said stirrups about their axis of hinging x-x to the fixed structure '6. Said sensor is connected to the motor 14 in such a manner as to cause it to rotate in two directions of rotation according to the extent of the mutual displacement of the rolls 34 in the longitudinal direction.
The reference numeral 40 indicates a fabric gathered into rope-form. which has been treated in a finishing operation such as dyeing. bleaching or washing. and is to be opened in order to again assume its widened form. To eliminate any twisting suffered during the course of the treatment. the fabric 40 is passed inside the guide 12.
following a sinuous path around the rollers 20. In this manner. the fabric 40 is compelled to stricty follow the rotation of the guide 12. The fabric 40 emerging from the quide 12 is passed about the pulley 24 and through the two rolls 34. The scored rolls 34 are displaced axially in opposite directions by an extent which is a function of the degree of twist in the fabric 40. The consequent angular displacement of the stirrups 30 and 32 about the x-x axis thus activates the sensor. which feeds the motor 14 with a signal for controlling the rotation of the guide 12 in one direction or the other in order to eliminate the twist in the fabric 40.
The sensitivity of the rolls 34 can be adjusted according to the type of fabric by adjusting the counter-weight 38 on its arm 36.
In the example shown in Figure 4, the reference numeral 42 indicates generally one modification of the embodiment of the guide 12 shown in Figures 1 to 3. In the guide 42. the axes of the end rollers 44 and 46 lie in a plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the guide, and the axis of the intermediate roller 48 is displaced, relative to said plane. in a direction away from the axis of the guide 42.
In a like manner to the guide 12. the guide 42 is provided with three balancing rollers.
of which the pivoting axes 50 are visible.
These balancing rollers are complementary to the rollers 44.46 and 48.and are disposed symmetrically to said rollers about the longitudinal axis of the guide 42.
Within the principle of the invention. the constructional details and the embodiments can be widely varied relative to that described and illustrated by way of nonlimiting example without departing from the scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
