Alternating-current induction machines.-Electric power transmission systems for ship propulsion and the like comprise an engine-driven alternator AB, Fig. 1, an alternating current motor CD driving the propeller H, and auxiliary machines A1B1, A2B2 for regulating the transmission ratio. In one form, the auxiliaries are single phase commutator machines mechanically coupled to the shaft of the alternator and electrically connected through slip rings 1, 2, 3, 4 to the induction motor, in such a way that the motor can receive variable excitation. In another form, shown in Fig. 4, the auxiliaries are electrically connnected through the slip-rings 1, 2, 3, 4 to the excitation circuit of the alternator AB, in such a way that variable frequencies of excitation can be obtained.
