Description

(54) MOTORCYCLE WORK BENCH OR STAND (71) We, MECHANICAL SERVICES (TRAILER ENGINEERS) LTD., a British Company, of Belmont Road, Bolton, Lancashire, BL1 7AQ, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: - This invention relates to a work bench or stand for small vehicles, more particularly a work bench or stand for a motor cycle.
According to the invention there is provided a work bench comprising a base, a vehicle support frame mounted on the base and movable between a lowered position and a raised position, a winch for moving the support frame between said lowered and raised positions and locking means for retaining the frame in the raised position.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of a work bench.
Referring to the drawing the work bench comprises a rectangular base fame 10. A support frame 12 is pivotally mounted on the base frame by legs 14 of equal length. The support frame includes a channel-section runway 16 for receiving the wheels of a vehicle as illustrated. The runway has an inclined ramp 18 at one end which may be integral as shown or constructed as a separate piece.
An aperture is provided in the bottom of the runway adjacent the other end 20 in which a vehicle wheel is received, thus helping to secure the vehicle on the support frame.
Additional securing means such as adjustable strap 22 can be provided as desired.
A winch 24 is mounted on a winch support 26 fixed to the end of the base frame remote from ramp 18 and the winch cable 28 is fixed to the adjacent end of the support frame.
The support frame can be raised and lowered by means of the winch between the lowered position where the frame rests on legs 30 and a raised position where the vehicle can be serviced. A catch 32 mounted on the winch support 26 can be engaged on the support frame in the raised position to prevent any accidental lowering of the frame.
The invention is not confined to the above described embodiment and many modifications can be made. For example, with legs 14 of equal length and connected appropriately to the base and the support frame, the plane of the support frame remains parallel to the plane od the base regardless of the position of the support frame. With legs of unequal length however, the angle that the plane of the support frame makes with the base alters as the support frame is raised and lowered.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A work bench comprising a base, a vehicle support frame mounted on the base and movable between a lowered position and a raised position, a winch for moving the support frame between said lowered and raised positions and locking means for retaining the frame in the raised position.
2. A work bench as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the support frame includes a channelsection runway for the wheels of a vehicle.
3. A work bench as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the support frame is linked to the base such that the plane of the support frame is parallel to the plane of the base.
4. A work bench substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing.
