Abstract
157,637. Tapper, A. H., Evans, C. H. R., and Evans, A. L. R. Dec. 19, 1919. Table games.-An automatic stumper for table cricket comprises a member pivotally mounted so that when struck at one end by a ball the other end may swing into contact with the wicket. As shown in Fig. 1, the stumper comprises a vertical post B pivoting on a pin a and carrying arms b. Stumps D may be supported on the same base as the stumper. When a ball hits the extremity of one arm b the other arm swings against the wicket and knocks off the bails. The stumper may pivot horizontally as shown in Fig. 5. The stumps may have rounded bases d resting in recesses or they may be pivotally suspended on wires. The fielders are represented by wedges H, Fig. 6, leading to flexible hoods K weighted at the rear by wire k. A net is supported round the edge of the table by a series of uprights N, Fig. 8. To represent bowling, the ball is propelled by means of an instrument L, Fig. 7, having at one end glass-paper l and rubber m. One of these surfaces is placed beneath the ball when the latter rests on the table, and the instrument is moved sharply upward to project the ball. For batting, an ordinary miniature bat is employed.
