Abstract
157,366. Kaplan, V. Oct. 30, 1915, [Convention date]. Axial-flow and combined-flow types; blades, regulating.-In a water turbine, radial or inclined blades F for axial or axial-radial flow are carried by the rotor and preferably are not provided with a rotor rim. The blades are spaced apart so that at their tips they have " wing " characteristics and near their roots " cell " characteristics as defined in Specification 17588/14. In the form shown, the water enters the casing radially between guide-blades S and turns into an axial direction partly in the guide-blade spaces and partly in the free space x. The guide blades may or may not overhang the suction tube. The blades may be inclined downwardly from the hub for radial inlet or upwardly for an axial inlet. The blades may be cast into the hub, cast integrally with it, or be flanged and secured by bolts. The flanges may have concentric slots so that the angularity of the blades may be adjusted. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also states that the diameter d of the hub should not be greater than ten times the diameter d<1> of the shaft, and that the adjustable blades mav be secured and adjusted by means of wedges. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
