Description

(54) DEVICE FOR STORING LAUNDRY, PARTICULARLY DIRTY LANDRY (71) We, LEIFHEIT INTERNATION AL GUNTER LEIFHEIT GmbH, a body corporate organised and existing under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany of 5408 Nassau/Lahn, Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to a device for storing laundry, particularly dirty laundry.
Linen cabinets, linen baskets and other items of furniture in the form of containers for laundry have been previously proposed to be placed in bedrooms, bathrooms or other rooms and which take up relatively considerable space which is undesirable in small dwellings. In such small dwellings, therefore, dirty laundry is frequently kept in bags or sacks of textile, paper or synthetic plastics material until it can be cleaned or washed. This has the disadvantage that placing the dirty washing into such containers and then removing it therefrom is troublesome and the bags or sacks standing around in corners impair the appearance of the room concerned.
The invention is based on the problem of providing a device for storing laundry, particularly dirty laundry, which can be space-savingly accommodated under widely diverse conditions.
According to the invention there is provided a device for storing laundry. particularly dirty laundry. comprising a support member to be secured to a wall, a laundry bag and a carrier of synthetic plastics material having an annular frame around which the mouth of the laundry bag can be separably secured, the carrier being detachably engageable with the support member, after the support member has been secured to a wall, to suspend the laundry bag therefrom so that articles of laundry passed through the annular frame fall into the laundry bag to be stored therein.
The annular frame and laundry bag can thus be suspended so that they use up only a small space, for example alongside a wardrobe.
The support member may have an integrally moulded trough therein and the carrier an integral suspension hook which is engageable in the trough. Thus the carrier can be engaged with the support member so that it will not be unintentionally detached from the support member even as the result of pendulum movement which occurs when the dirty laundry is being placed in the device but can be removed from the support member when desired, for example to empty the bag.
The support member may comprise a hollow body in which a fixing member can be engaged to secure the body to a wall and a cap-like cover which closes an open front end of the hollow body. The fixing member can thus be completely concealed.
Advantageously, the annular frame comprises a front flange which extends substantially vertically in use, an integrally moulded rearwardly extending flange on the rear face of the front flange and an outwardly directed, integrally moulded rear flange at the rear end of the rearwardly extending flange to form a waisted constriction between the front flange and the rear flange.
Dirty laundry can conveniently be passed through the filling aperture into the laundry bag.
The mouth of the laundry bag preferably includes a collar band to engage over the rear flange of the carrier and in the waisted constriction. The laundry bag can thus be securely but seperably secured to the carrier so that it will not be unintentionally detached. The collar band of the laundry bag may be provided with a draw cord, the ends of which can be pulled and tied together.
The invention is diagrammatically illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a view of a device for storing laundry according to the invention, prior to attachment of a carrier of the device to a support member of the device; Figure 2 is a rear view of the carrier; Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line III-III of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a plan view of the carrier; Figure 5 is a view of a laundry bag of the device of Figure 1 prior to its attachment; Figure 6 is a perspective view of the support member from above and one side; Figure 7 is a longitudinal sectional view through a body of the support member with a cover removed; Figure 8 is a front view of the body of Figure 7 with the cover removed; Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on line IX-IX of Figure 6; Figure 10 is an elevation of the cover; and Figure II is a sectional view taken on XI-XI of Figure 10.
Referring to the drawings, a device 10 shown in Figure 1. comprises a support member 11, a carrier 12 and a laundry bag 13. Figures 6 to 11 show the support member 11. This comprises a body 14 and a cap-like cover 15. Figures 7, 8 and 9 show the body 14, the shell of which comprises a cylindrical hollow body 16. Within the cavity 17 of the body 14 is a length of tube 18 through which a fixing screw 19 can be passed to be engaged in a wall to fix the body 14 thereon. As particularly Figure 9 shows, the tube 18 is of the same material as and is connected by webs 20, 21, 22 to the walls of the hollow body 16. The webs 20,21 extend arcuately and merge into the walls of the tube 18. In order to avoid the head of the fixing screw 19 protruding from the cavity 17, the tube 18 does not extend out to the front end of the body 14.
A trough 23 is formed in the upper half of the body 14, its bottom 24 being formed by the webs 20, 21.
The edge 25 at the front end 26 of the body 14 has an annular recess 27 there around into which an annular flange 28 of the cap-like cover 15 can be engaged with a snap action.
The cover 15 is shown in Figures 10 and 11. It has a receiving aperture 29 which can be widened out to permit insertion of the front end 26 of the body 14.
The support member 11 is fitted by firstly securing the body 14 at the desired location on a wall by means of the screw 19 passing through the tube 18.
The cap-like cover 15 is then fitted onto the edge 25 and pressed against the body 14 to engage the annular flange 28 in the annular recess 27.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 show the carrier 12 which comprises a one-piece moulding of synthetic plastics material. It comprises an annular frame 30, having a front flange with a portion shaped into a suspension hook 31, an integrally moulded, rearwardly extending flange on the rear face of the front flange and an outwardly directed, integrally moulded rear flange 32, at the rear end of the rearwardly extending flange to form a waisted constriction 33 between the rear flange 32 and the front flange of the annular frame 30 to permit the separable attachment of the laundry bag 13. A part of the rear flange 32 is reduced in height or removed to produce a cut-out 34. As Figure 1 shows, the suspension hook 31 is shaped to conform to the shape of the trough 23 in the body 14.
The aperture defined by the annular frame 30 provides a filling aperture 35 through which dirty laundry can be pushed into the interior of the laundry bag.
The laundry bag 13, preferably produced from textiles, synthetic plastics or paper, is shown in Figure 5. It has a mouth 36 to co-operate with the annular frame 30 of the carrier 12 and is provided with a collar band 37 which can be opened out and engaged over the rear flange 32 of the carrier 12. As Figure 5 shows, a draw cord 38 is inserted into the collar band 37. After engaging the collar band 37 over the rear flange 32 of the carrier 12, the ends of the cord 38 are pulled, to engage the collar band 37 in the waisted restriction 33, and then tied to one another to secure the bag 13 to the carrier 12. The hook 31 of the carrier 12 can then be engaged with the support member to suspend the carrier 12 and bag 13 therefrom.
As already mentioned, the embodiment shown is only an example of how the invention may be carried into effect. The invention is not limited to it and many modifications and further constructions within the scope of the appended claims are possible. For example the draw cord 38 in the collar 37 could be replaced by an endless elastic strip.
