Linear-dimension gauges. -The legs 1, 2 of a pair of callipers or dividers are pressed apart by a circular spring 4 through which passes a screw 5 secured to the pivot 3, and crossed links 6, 7 are pivoted to the ends of the legs and to a sleeve 10 which slides over the screw 5 and abuts against a nut 11. In use, the legs are gripped in the hand, the nut 11 slackened, and the legs allowed to move under the influence of the spring to an approximately correct position. The final adjustment is then made by moving the sleeve 10 by operating the nut 11.
