Description

(54) NECKTIE OR SCARF KNOT RETAINER (71) I, DAVID MALDON JAMES, a British subject of "En Facade", Cordier Hill, St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: - This invention relates to a necktie or scarf knot retainer.
According to the present invention there is provided a necktie or scarf knot retainer comprising a stiff wafer having a head and a tail extending from the head, the head being for insertion into the knot of a tied necktie or scarf between the two lengths of the necktie or scarf that hang down from the knot and with the tail extending down between these two lengths of necktie or scarf, the head being barbed to engage the knot.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a necktie knot retainer, and Figure 2 illustrates use of the retainer of Figure 1.
The necktie knot retainer of Figure 1 consists of a wafer 1 of thin but stiff material, such as a transparent stiff synthetic plastics material. The wafer 1 has a head 1A and a tail 1B extending from the head 1A and co-planar therewith. On opposite sides of the head 1A barbs 2 are formed.
As illustrated in Figure 2, after a wearer has tied his necktie around his neck, he inserts the retainer, body 1A first, between the two lengths of necktie that hang down from the knot, so that the body 1A slips into the knot and the barbs 2 engage the necktie material. The tail 1B extends down between the two lengths of necktie. As the barbs 2 are engaged with the necktie material, the retainer does not work loose in normal wear, and the presence of the retainer in the knot stiffens the knot to prevent the knot from twisting, slipping or losing its shape.
When in place the retainer should be invisible and to this end the tail 1B should be of suitable length and shape. Accordingly, in practice, retainers such as described should be available in a range of sizes to suit neckties, and necktie knots, of all sizes, and to suit scarf knots since the retainer can be equally effective with scarves.
The retainer is freed by undoing the necktie in the conventional way.
If desired, the tail can be of extended length, as compared with the form illustrated, to have the effect of "puffing up" the upper of the two lengths of necktie that hang down from the knot.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A necktie or scarf knot retainer comprising a stiff wafer having a head and a tail extending from the head, the head being for insertion into the knot of a tied necktie or scarf between the two lengths of the necktie or scarf that hang down from the knot and with the tail extending down between.these two lengths of neck
