156,687. Colsman, W. Dec. 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery.- In belt, rope, wire, &c. gearing of the kind in which the belt &c. passes over one or each pulley twice or more and over one or more idler pulleys between each pair of such passages, means are provided for shifting the idler-pulleys for tensioning or for starting and stopping. In the form shown in Fig. 1, single idler pulleys 4, 4<1> are carried by pivoted arms 5, 5<1> on a single support or separately mounted and connected by a rod 7 on which is arranged a spring 10 for maintaining the tension. In modifications, for instance in that shown in Fig. 3, in which a pair of idler pulleys 4, 4<1> is used for each main pulley, screw or cam means is used for manual adjustment of the pul. leys 4, 4<1>. A stop 11 limits oscillation. The arms 5, 5<1> may be clamped in position after adjustment. One arm may be immovable.
