Edge-runners and pans.-In an edge-runner mill having an outlet into a rotating barrel sieve provided with arms to return the tailings to the mill, the arms deliver the tailings into the hopper of a conveyer arranged axially of the sieve, which is of truncated pyramidal form or diverges away from the mill. As shown, the sieve c is of hexagonal cross-section, and the conveyer consists of a pipe h provided with internal spiral abutments i. The hopper k of the conveyer is divided by radial partitions l corresponding to the arms g of the sieve. The pipe h and hopper k rotate with the sieve, which is driven by chain gearing e from a shaft d driven from the mill a.
