Abstract

Cyanine dyes of the formula <IMAGE> in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1 are used in photographic direct positive recording material. The use of the cyanine dyes of the formula VI sensitises direct positive emulsions, and said dyes can be used in at least one silver halide emulsion layer.
