Abstract

155,384. Koopman, M., and Johnston, H. Sept. 23, 1919. Tip-wagons.-Relates to tip-wagons of the kind in which one or more containers A, B are mounted pivotally at C upon the wagon frame in such a manner that when loaded the centre of gravity lies between the pivot and the open or discharging end, and when unloaded the centre of gravity lies on the opposite side of the pivot, so that the containers automatically tip and return to their normal position. Two containers A, B are pivoted upon the frame R, and a single partition Q, preferably converging towards its lower end, extends across the entire width of the wagon and serves as a closure to the adjacent open ends of both containers in their normal position. The containers are supported in the horizontal position by resting on transverse rods G, H connected to operating levers F which are raised for allowing the loads to discharge. Pins N on the containers engage behind catches N on the wagon frame so as to hold the containers in the tilted position until the catches are released, whereupon the containers automatically return to their normal position, being preferably aided in the latter movement by counterbalance plates P riveted near the ends of the containers.
