Abstract

155,195. Turner Machine Co., (Assignees of Osten, F. von). Dec. 11, 1919, [Convention date]. Openers etc.; feeding openers &c.-In disintegrating textile waste and scrap cloth, yarns, cords, &c. to produce lint of long staple fibre, the material is fed by an apron 5 between a hollow perforated roll 8, and a leather, rubber, or other covered idler roll 15 to a teasing-roll comprising side members 21, Fig. 6, carrying rows of metal brushes 24 loosely mounted on loose sleeves 23 on rods 22, the rocking of the brushes being limited by stop rods 27. The brushes are cleaned by brush rollers 38, 40, which are themselves cleaned by a brush roller 46. The treated material passes out through a shoot 81 and screen cylinders 82, 83, to a conveyer 88. Gripping-means for holding the material while being acted upon 'by the teasing-roll comprise two plates 71, 74, Fig. 4, alternately raised and lowered by eccentrics 68 and 69 respectively, each having sets of fingers turned inwards towards the roll 8. The brushes may comprise bristles secured in a butt-piece 25, or the bristles may be doubled over the sleeves 23 and secured by rings 32, Fig. 7, or single rows of looped metal bristles 33, Fig. 9, looped on rods 22<1> may be used. Foreign matter such as dust and dirt falling through the apron 5, roll 8, and screens 82, 83 may be carried off by suction.
