Abstract

154,840. Shachtman, M. March 31, 1920. Diaphragm horns.-In automobile horns of the type in which a toothed disk engages a stud on a flexible diaphragm and the motive power is provided by the engine, the extended spindle d of the toothed disk carries a slidably mounted friction wheel g, adapted to engage another wheel l driven by the engine. The engagement is effected by a striking-fork p rotatably mounted on a bellcrank lever o which is operated by a hand or foot lever through a wire or cord. The wheel g is normally kept from engaging the driving-wheel by means of a spring k, which is retained between the wheel o and the washer h by means of a set screw h<1>. The mouth of the horn is preferably provided with a cover of wire gauze q.
