Abstract

Basic zinc vanadate (precipitated from alkaline ammonium vanadate solution by zinc chloride), or basic zinc chloride, is deposited on gummed pumice, the gum being then burned off in air.ALSO:Acetylene, air, and steam are passed over a catalyst, consisting of a heavy metal salt which is not appreciably volatilized or decomposed below red heat, at 300 DEG -400 DEG C.; the resulting mixture of aldehyde with a small amount of acetic acid is condensed fractionally, or first oxidized completely to acetic acid. The weak aldehyde fraction may be used to produce the necessary steam. As catalysts are specified, basic metallic salts, particularly zinc salts, vanadates, molybdates, and chromates; basic zinc chloride is mentioned. In an example, basic zinc vanadate is precipitated from alkaline ammonium vanadate solution by zinc chloride and deposited on gummed pumice, the gum being then burned off in air.ALSO:Basic zinc vanadate is precipitated from alkaline ammonium vanadium solution by zinc chloride.
