Blocks and shoes. - Relates to the method of mounting brake blocks such as described in Specification 6820/15 in which the pressure is applied to the block through a curved member such as s. The member s forms a holder for the block p which is provided with a recess having upper and lower surfaces n resting upon corresponding surfaces o on the member s. The pivot pin u connecting the block to the member s can be dispensed with if desired. The pin v, Fig. 11, by which the member s is connected to the suspension link where such is used may be normally disposed within the recess in the block so that its detachment is presented without the use of cotter pins or similar means. Fig. 7 shows a construction in which the member s is integral with the suspension link a the surfaces o being formed on shoulders projecting laterally from the member a. Figs. 13 and 14 show the application to blocks having a removable shoe p attached to a shoe holder q by a key r. The member s is shown attached to a brake beam t in this case. Figs. 19 and 20 show the application to removable blocks p attached to a holder q by bolts v and also the use of springs x which enable the safety pin u connecting the members s, p to be dispensed with, hold the block in concentric relation with the wheel when disengaged therefrom, and serve also to prevent the entrance of dust into the recess z which would interfere with the swinging movement of the block. The springs x may be disposed within recesses formed in the sides of the member s. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes figures of the drawings which do not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 6820/15.
