Abstract

1537488 Radiography EMI Ltd 9 March 1976 [18 March 1975] 11132/75 Heading H4F In a radiological examination apparatus in which a beam of X-rays from a source 11 passes through a slice of a body 5 to a detector 12 from which signals are derived to produce an absorption distribution over the slice, the source 11 and detector 12 are subjected to lateral scanning by means of a driven belt 14 and are also orbited about an axis 9 perpendicular to the slice of the body, several orbits taking place during a single lateral scan. Measurements are taken at various times during the scanning and the orientation of the beam is determined from a photocell 21 adjacent a graticule 22, the measurements subsequently being sorted into sets of parallel or near parallel beam readings. The beam can be linear or a fan of small divergence.
