Abstract

In flame-resistant moulding compositions comprising thermoplastics with finely divided red phosphorus (maximum particle size 0.1 mm) distributed therein in amounts of from 1 to 10 % by weight, stabilisation of the phosphorus against PH3 formation is achieved during moulding of the compositions by coating the individual P particles with from 2 to 30 % of aluminium hydroxide, based on the weight of the phosphorus. The coating can be effected by precipitation of aluminium hydroxide from aqueous solutions of aluminium salts.
