Abstract

1536466 Injection blow moulding EMHART INDUSTRIES Inc 24 Feb 1976 [3 March 1975] 07201/76 Heading B5A A biaxially oriented plastics container is made by injection moulding a parison 14 in a mould 2 having a neck mould 6 and a core pin 10, temperature conditioning the parison in the mould 2, removing the parison from the mould with the core pin and the neck mould, removing the core pin 10, further temperature conditioning the parison by allowing the internal and surface temperatures of the parison wall to become more equal, transferring the parison to a split blow mould 18, and forming the container by stretching and blowing the parison. Two neck moulds 10, Figs. 2 and 3, may be rotated by a turret 26 positioned between a stationary platen 22 and a movable platen 24 on which the injection and blow mould halves are mounted. Alternatively, Fig. 15, an arm 28 may swing a single neck mould through injection, temperature conditioning, and blowing stations, the neck ring returning to the injection station during blow moulding. In the former case seals 36, Fig. 3, are used between the blow head 30 and the neck ring during blowing and stretching of the parison by a stretch pin 32 having air orifices 34. In the latter case the seal 42 is between the blow head 30 and the parison, Fig. 14, or the blow mould (Fig. 13, not shown). A polyethylene terephthalate or nitrile resin parison is temperature conditioned in the injection mould 2 by blowing air ever it or by passing temperature regulating fluid through passages 7 and 9 in the core pin 10 and through passages 17 and 18 in the mould 2 and the neck ring 6. Cooling passages 21 are also provided in the blow mould 18.
