Abstract
1536365 Measuring apparatus DR JOHANNES HEIDENHAIN GmbH 11 Feb 1976 [11 Feb 1975 (2)] 05417/76 Heading G1M A linear measuring apparatus for measuring the relative position of two objects comprises a measuring scale 1 mounted within a protective hollow body 10 and a sensing unit 9 mounted in front of the scale. The scale is secured to the body 10 through an elastomeric layer 11, e.g. of silicone rubber, the scale being preferably of glass and the body 10 of extended aluminium. The sensing unit is guided by shoes 12, 13 acting on the surface of the scale 1 and rollers 14 acting on a surface of the body 10, these surfaces being inclined, preferably at right angles. The sensing unit 9 is attached to one object 19 by a driving element 17 which is guided between flexible sealing lips 21, 22. The sensing unit may comprise a lamp and photo-electric means for co-operating with the scale 1. The body 10 may be connected to the other object by resilient flexible connections.
