Abstract
1536290 Silicon nitride ceramics DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 26 May 1977 [27 Feb 1976] 07867/76 Heading C1J [Also in Division C7] The oxidation resistance of reaction bonded Si 3 N 4 is improved by impregnating with at least one compound which reduces to CaO, SrO, BaO, mixtures of these with iron oxide and mixtures of MgO and Al 2 O 3 corresponding to MgAl 2 O 4 . The impregnated body is then calcined, e.g. at 850‹ C., to effect reduction. Impregnation is preferably effected with a boiling solution or melt of a nitrate.
