Abstract
1536267 Removing Na from Al VACMETAL GmbH 14 Nov 1977 [15 Nov 1976] 47317/77 Heading C7D The Na content of molten Al or alloy is reduced by reacting the Al, while under vacuum, with a material of greater affinity for the Na than both the Al and any alloying element(s) to produce a reaction product insoluble in the melt. Al-Mg alloys may be treated with a halogen or a compound thereof whose heat of formation is smaller than that of its reaction products with Na, e.g. metallic halides and halocarbons. The content of the elements Li, Ca, K and Ba may also be reduced if present.
