Abstract

1536257 Anti-skid braking systems GENERAL MOTORS CORP 22 Sept 1977 [29 Sept 1976 (2)] 39523/77 Heading F2F A wheel lock control system comprises components 10-26 to provide a wheel speed signal (at 28), a deceleration switch 30 responsive to the wheel speed signal and effective to provide a control signal which is initiated when the rate of change of wheel speed exceeds a predetermined threshold deceleration, a "cycle depth" integrator 32 effective to generate cycle depth signal, (defined below), and control components 40-44 responsive to the control signal and the cycle depth signal for effecting wheel brake release during the period of the control signal and during the period that the cycle depth signal exceeds a reference value, the cycle depth integrator including means responsive to the wheel speed signal and effective to provide a wheel acceleration or deceleration signal, means effective during brake application to provide a deceleration reference signal representing a maximum vehicle deceleration, the deceleration reference signal being terminated during brake release, and integrating means effective to integrate the sum of the acceleration/deceleration signal and the deceleration reference signal to provide the cycle depth signal, the cycle depth signal being a composite one comprising a first portion representing the amount that the time integral of the deceleration reference signal exceeds the wheel speed during brake application, and a second portion which is the integral off wheel acceleration during brake release. The system also includes a system-failure monitoring and disabling circuit comprising a component 50 effective to generate a fault signal in response to a sensed malfunction from any one of components 48, 52, 32, 42, a logic component 54 responsive both to the fault signal and the brake release signal direct from 42 and effective to provide an inhibit logic signal; when no brake release signal is present the inhibit signal exists only for the duration of a temporary fault, but if the fault signal co-exists at least momentarily with the brake release signal, the inhibit signal exists for the duration of the fault signal or the brake release signal, whichever is the longer. The system is inhibited, via components 42, 44, from releasing the vehicle wheels during the period of the inhibit signal, and a lamp warning circuit 56 is energized.
