Abstract

1536140 Operating and locking mechanism for flaps COLT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 23 April 1976 [20 March 1975] 11769/75 Heading E2M A flap 10 is hinged (not shown) to a frame 11 of a ventilator, a linearly extensible actuator e.g. pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblage 12 being connected between the frame 11 and the flap 10 for opening and closing the flap 10. A spring pressed detent 25 holds the flap 10 in its closed position, and extension of the actuator 12 takes up lost motion prior to opening the flap 10 by removing the detent 25 and so releasing the flap 10 for opening. The lost motion connection comprises an arm 16 pivoted to the flap 10 at 18 and to the actuator 12 at 15 so that, on extension of the actuator, the arm 16 is pivoted until the flap is opened by the arm engaging a surface 19 of a bracket 20 fixed to the flap 10. During this lost motion pivoting, the arm 16 pushes the detent 25 against a spring 30 and out of engagement with a bar 32 carried by the bracket 20, so to release the flap 10 for opening. On closing, the bar 32 engages ramp surfaces 37 of the detent 25 to push the detent back as the flap is shut.
