Disk mills.-Mills for grinding corn, bran, &c. are provided on the periphery of one of the oppositely - rotating grinding- disks a, b with tangentially-disposed blades or beaters which extend outwardly over both disks, and with a curved sieve h at one side of the spiral grinding-chamber c, so that on one side the blades drive the grist issuing from the disks upwardly, and on the other side fling it against the sieve h. The fine material passing through the sieve escapes by an outlet k, while the coarser particles pass through an opening m in one of the walls of the grinding chamber into a channel leading to the feed-inlet of the mill. The blades g extend over both disks and may consist of bent or slit parts or screw-like surfaces to move the ground material parallel to the axis of the disks in addition to throwing it against the screen. A cone-shaped ring i fitted to the periphery of the other disk diverts the ground material towards the opposite side of the grinding chamber. Two grinding zones are provided on each disk, the inner cutting-zone b<2> consisting of a plate with sharp teeth and the outer grinding- zone b<1> of an annular plate coated with emery &c. For cooling the disks, an exhaust fan connected to an opening o draws an axial current of air through the feed-hopper d and openings a<2> in the disk a. The feed hopper d contains a feedroller e, and distributing-blades f are provided.
