Abstract

1535516 Dewatering oily sludge BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 6 Dec 1976 [15 Dec 1975] 51189/75 Heading B1D [Also in Division C1] An oily sludge is dewatered by filtering the sludge, treating the filtration residue with a hydrocarbon solvent and steam stripping the extracted residue. The sludge may be diluted with water or a solvent and may be heated. The preferred hydrocarbon solvent is kerosine. A filter aid may be added to the sludge prior to filtration and a drying stage may be interposed between filtration and solvent extraction.
