Abstract

1534865 Mineral-mining machines SARPIT Ltd 26 July 1976 [25 July 1975] 31128/75 Heading E1F In a mineral-mining machine in which the cutting means have a cutting capability approximating in dimension to the thickness of a seam to be mined said cutting means comprise one or more cutter drums provided with cutter picks on their leading ends as well as on the helical vanes extending about the cylinders of the drums and so mounted in the machine that, when the machine is in use, the drums are rotatable about an axis or axes 15 normal to the mineral face and are advanceable or retractable along said axis or axes. Preferably the described axial motion of the cutting means is caused by one or more double acting rams 18. Other rams may be provided on the machine for adjusting the cutting means about vertical and horizontal axes. Said cutting means may have vane mounted picks on rearward extensions of the cutting means so that when the machine is located in a maingate over a gate conveyer it may be operable at least in the retracted position of the cutter means to turn mineral through 90‹ and act as a mineral breaker at the main gate.
