1534705 Mechanical switches D A SWANN 21 Nov 1975 [3 Dec 1974] 48026/75 Heading H1N A pivotable contact 1 for an electrical switch comprises a portion 2, 3 outwardly struck from one of its sides to define an abutment engageable by a switch actuator 19 which is operable to slide the contact 1 over and to pivot it about a fixed contact 13, 17 so as to cause one of its ends to engage or disengage another fixed contact. The pivotable contact 1 may be provided with a pair of abutments 2, 3 and can be arcuate in elevation, Fig. 4, arcuate in plan, and elevation (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) or flat (Fig. 1, not shown). Two movable contacts 1, 1a are each co-operable with a set of fixed contacts 12-14, 16-18 and are mounted via spring biased pins 28, 29 on a reciprocable actuator 19. When the actuator 19 is pushed or pulled against the bias of a spring 21, the movable contacts 1, 1a slide over and pivot about the intermediate fixed contacts 13, 17 moving out of engagement with the contacts 12, 16 and into engagement with the contacts 14, 18. The actuator 19 is held in this position by the end 60 of a Z-shaped member 55, which is carried by the actuator 19, engaging the wall of a channel 65 in the switch casing (position b, Fig. 9 not shown) along which the member 55 moves upon movement of the actuator 19. The switch casing is defined by two parts 10, 11 snap-fitted together. The movable contact 1 may be used in the switches disclosed in Specification 1,534,704.
