Abstract

1534219 Urethral catheter HOECHST AG 18 July 1977 [17 July 1976] 30063/77 Heading A5R A urethral catheter includes at least one fluid duct 2 extending along the catheter wall and terminating in an irrigation outlet 3 in the outer surface of the catheter wall in the portion of the catheter which, in use, is situated in the urethra. The catheter may be provided with a balloon 6, for securing the catheter when in position, which is connected to an inlet 5 via fluid duct 7 in the catheter wall. The fluid ducts 2 and 7 may be closed by a back-pressure valve, a lipvalve, a tap or a diaphragm. The irrigation outlet 3 is preferably funnel-shaped, and the fluid duct 2 may be substantially parallel to the catheter axis or extend helically about the catheter lumen. The catheter terminates at one end in a urine outlet 9, the other end being closed and provided with one or more orifices 8 in the wall of the catheter for entry of urine into the catheter lumen.
