Abstract
1533923 Tightening systems STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO 19 March 1976 11043/76 Heading G1N A tightening system for tightening a fastener to a predetermined condition comprises a wrench 50 for tightening a fastener, control means 51 operatively associated with the wrench 50 for shutting-off the wrench 50 at the predetermined condition and quality control means 53 for checking the condition of the fastener at the predetermined condition and providing an indication thereof. The control means 51 comprises a circuit identical with that disclosed for the second embodiment in Specification 1526948. The torque of the wrench is measured using strain gauges 72, contacting gauges or proximity displacement gauges and the angular displacement thereof by an induction type proximity probe 74 associated with the motor 52. The quality control means 53 comprises two circuits, one 120, 122 &c associated with the torque measuring portion of the control means for indicating whether the torque measured at the shutting-off of the wrench lies within a predetermined range. The predetermined range is set on the two components 122, 124 and lamps 126, 128, 132 are provided for visually indicating the value of the aforesaid torque. Similarly the other circuit 140, 142 &c associated with the angular displacement measuring portion of the control means visually indicates whether the angular displacement lies in a predetermined range.
