1533126 Basic monoazo dyes YORKSHIRE CHEMICALS Ltd 4 July 1977 [23 July 1976] 30717/76 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] Novel, water-soluble azo dyes of the general Formula I in which R represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl, alkoxy or alkylcarbonylamino group; R' represents an optionally substituted alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP> represents a chlorine or bromine atom; one of the radicals R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> represents the same atom as R<SP>2</SP>, and the other represents a hydrogen atom; R<SP>5</SP> represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl group; R<SP>6</SP> represents a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group; R<SP>7</SP> represents an alkyl group; R<SP>8</SP> represents -CH 2 CH 2 - or -CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 -; R<SP>9</SP>, R<SP>10</SP>, and R<SP>11</SP> each independently represent hydrogen atoms or methyl groups, and X represents an anion which renders the dye soluble in water, may be prepared by conventional diazotization and coupling and used in colouring polyacrylonitrile and copolymers thereof, tannin, mordanted cotton, cellulose acetate and acid modified polyesters or polyamides.
