Abstract

1532877 Tension reducing means in car seat belts AMERICAN SAFETY EQUIPMENT CORP 27 Aug 1976 [26 April 1976 1 July 1976] 35825/76 Heading A3V A car safety belt has a spring biassing means to retract the belt and a second spring biassing means operable independantly of the first and means for releasably connecting it to the reel, In a first embodiment a spring 20 acts to rewind the belt. When the belt is withdrawn from the reel and slightly rewound or retracted a second spring 42 acts against spring 20 to reduce belt tension. When the belt is rewound spring 42 is bluffed out of action. In the embodiment of Fig. 10 two return springs 20, 42 are provided acting in the same direction and in use the second spring 42 can be bluffed out of action to reduce belt tension during wear.
