Abstract

1532726 Valves JAMES KEMP & CO PTY Ltd 19 Sept 1977 38955/77 Heading F2V An air release valve (e.g. for release of gases from sewage systems) comprises a guided float 13 having a seal pad 16 for sealing an orifice 26 contained in a spring loaded piston 22; the piston 22 carrying, via spring 36, a seal pad 37 for sealing an orifice 32. Gas pressure in chamber 11 lifts the piston 22 from seal 16 to allow gas to chamber 29. The gas in chamber 29 is vented to atmosphere via orifice 32, filter 38 and grooves 40 in cap 39 unless the piston 22 has moved sufficiently for seal 37 to close orifice 32. In the latter case, once pressures in chambers 29 and 11 have equalized the orifice 32 is uncovered as the spring 34 moves the piston 22 downwardly again. The float 13 has a secondary seal 17 which seals against a seat 21 when the cap 39, valve top 28 and piston 22 are removed for maintenance. A handle 42 controls a valve (not shown) to allow water to a nozzle 41 to clean the float and orifice 26.
