Abstract

1532716 Preservation of wood M & T INTERNATIONAL BV 21 April 1976 [25 April 1975] 16204/76 Heading A5E A process for the preservation of wood or wood products comprises treating the wood or wood product with an organotin compound in solution in an organic solvent the tin compound having the formula (R 3 Sn) a H b X, wherein R represents an alkyl group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a cyclohexyl group or a phenyl group and X represents an anion derived from an oxy-acid of sulphur or phosphorus, a is an integer and b is zero or an integer such that (a+b) equals the valence of the anion X, the treatment being carried out in such a way as to provide a content of at least 0, 4 kg of organotin compound per m<SP>3</SP> of treated wood or wood product, said solution containing no pentachlorophenol. Typical tin compounds used are bis (tri-n-butyltin) sulphate and tris (tri-nbutyltin) phosphate.
