Abstract

1532159 Steam irons ROWENTA-WERKE GmbH 31 Aug 1977 [19 Oct 1976] 36377/77 Heading D1A A steam iron of the type comprising a sole plate 1, a cover 3, a handle 4, a water container 2 and a pump 7 drivable via an eccentric 8 via an electric motor 6 to deliver water from the container 2 to a steam generating chamber 12, is characterized in that a drive transmission member 16 rests on the pump 7 and has an aperture 17 therein which engages the eccentric 8, the diameter of the aperture 17 being at least double the stroke of the eccentric 8, there being provided adjustment means 18 for the member 16 on the side thereof remote from the pump 7 and a manually operable knob 20 connected to the means 18 and/or member 16. As shown, the pump 7 comprises a plastics diaphragm 24 and valves 13, 14 in housings 26, 27, respectively. A tube 9 connects the suction side of the pump 7 to the container 2 and a connection 10 and a pipe 11 the delivery side to the chamber 12. The eccentric 8 carries a drive roller 15 operatively connected to the member 16. A stop flange 21 is moulded to the means 18 and a braking plate 23 cooperates therewith to prevent the knob 20 being turned inadvertently. In operation, the continuous output of the pump 7 and thus the steam output of the iron is altered by turning the knob 20. To generate an extra steam jet, manual pressure is applied to the knob 20. For dry ironing, the pump 7 is put out of action by pressing the knob 20 and locking it against a stop 22 by displacement.
