Abstract
1531484 Fibre optics signal distributer unit SIEMENS AG 31 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 45190/75 Heading G1A In a glass fibre optical signal distributer unit 1 optical signals in a plurality of optical waveguides 2 are received and converted into respective electri- cal signals by opto-electric transducer 3. These signals are amplified 4 and fed to coupling devices 5 which are connected to electro-optical transducers 6. Each transducer 6 supplies a number p of separate glass fibres leading to associated receivers E 1 , E 2 , .... E p . The optical transducer 6 may consist of a plurality of optical fibres adjacent a common substrate incorporating a common luminescent diode Fig. 2 (not shown). Thus, one (T.V.) programme may be transmitted from each electrooptic transducer 6 to all the associated receivers E 1 - E p . However the apparatus may be modified by changing the nature of the optical transducer 6 and including a switching network. Each electro-optical transducer 6 may possess an output arrangement of p luminescent diodes Fig. 3 (not shown) with adjacent plug connections for the outgoing glass fibres. Each coupling device 5 is connected by a separate one of the illustrated p electric lines 12 to each adjoining electro-optical transducer. The corresponding receivers E 1 - E p are connected via respective lines 14 for switching (T.V.) signals to be fed to the coupling device. Thus by sending a signal along the return line 14 a particular (T.V.) signal can be selected.
