Abstract

1531433 Detergent additive PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 13 Feb 1976 [14 Feb 1975] 05745/76 Heading C5D A detergent additive comprises an alkali metal pyrophosphate and silica, including partly hydrated silica and alkali metal silicates having a molar ratio of SiO 2 :M 2 O greater than 4:1, having a mean particle diameter less than 20 microns in a weight ratio of pyrophosphate to silica of 25:1 to 1:2. The pyrophosphate may be sodium pyrophosphate, potassium pyrophosphate, or a mixture of the two. The additive may be present in detergent compositions which comprise 5 to 60% by wt. of the pyrophosphate, 1 to 40% by wt. of the silica and 1 to 50% by wt. of organic detergent, such as an alkoxylated alcohol or alkyl phenol, an ether sulphate, an α-sulphocarboxylate, an alkyl benzene sulphonate, an alkyl sulphate or a mixture thereof. The compositions may also contain sodium carbonate and alkali metal silicates having the wt. ratio SiO 2 :M 2 O from 1À6:1 to 4:1, where M is alkali metal. The compositions may be in liquid, powder or bar form.
