Abstract

1531215 Video disc players RCA CORPORATION 23 Oct 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 15552/78 Divided out of 1531214 Heading G5R In a video disc playback apparatus, a signal from player control circuits 111 (to raise the stylus from the playback position) initiates a squelch signal at 70 to block the output of video signals at 57, the initiation occurring when transistor 112 is blocked so taking the outputs of solenoids 113, 117 to a more positive potential and making transistor 80 conductive. When the player control circuit causes the stylus to be lowered, transistor 112 becomes conducting- making the anode of diode 121 negative so that, after a delay due to the charging of capacitor 83 which is sufficient to allow stabilization of the player circuitry, the squelch signal is terminated. During the play mode, squelch signals are generated in response to signals passing through diode 78 which indicate that a defect lasting more than approximately 50 ms. has been detected (by the potential on capacitor 77). During short duration defects the video signal is replaced by that from a preceding line.
