Abstract

1530918 Electromagnetic damping; bearings TELDIX GmbH 21 Nov 1975 [6 Dec 1974] 48052/75 Headings F2S and F2A [Also in Division B7] A contact-free bearing for a centrifuge rotor or rail vehicle suspension (not shown) is provided with a damper controlled by a sensor to become operative only when oscillations of the rotor or vehicle exceed a predetermined amplitude. Examples are given of electromagnetic damping of active or passive (Fig. 2, not shown) magnetic bearings. As shown, a rotor 1 of ferromagnetic material is supported both axially and radially by coils 4 and 5 which are controlled by sensors 6 and 7. The damper comprises a winding 15 in a ferromagnetic component 16 with pole rings 17, 18, and a ferromagnetic disc 19 on the rotor 1. The damper is activated by a sensor consisting of a permanent magnet 11 and an inductive coil 10, via a threshold value stage 13 which only passes on the signal if the amplitude of axial vibrations is above a certain value. In the application to a vehicle suspension, the bearing may be provided by an electrodynamic rather than an electromagnetic force.
