Abstract

1530205 Pipe couplings GEORGE FISCHER CASTINGS Ltd 20 July 1977 [21 July 1976] 30361/76 Heading F2G A pipe coupling comprises a body adapted to receive a pipe (not shown), the body having a converging internal surface 11, a securing collar 2 screwed on to the body and having a tapered internal surface 24, the member 2 and the body enclosing a sealing gasket 3 of synthetic rubber having a tapered outer surface to engage the surface 11, and a split locking ring 5 of steel a plastics material which has an outer tapered surface 53 to engage the surface 24 and internal protrusions to grip the pipe, tightening of the collar 2 contracting the locking ring 5 on to the pipe and causing it to compress the sealing gasket 3 to provide a seal. A washer 4 may be interposed between the gasket 3 and ring 5 and the protrusions on the ring may be a screw thread on circumferential grooves, these protrusions extending only to locations spaced from the ends of the ring 5.
