Abstract

1529470 Hydroxyphenylalkanoates CIBAGEIGY AG 11 Dec 1975 [12 Dec 1974 (2)] 50783/75 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R 1 , and when X is S, also R 2 are C 1-30 alkyl, C 5-12 cycloalkyl, alkylthioethyl of 4-27 atoms in the chain or alkylpolyoxyalkylene of 4-27 atoms in the chain having the general structure or where R‹ is C 1-18 alkyl, n is 2-4, R<SP>1</SP> is H, methyl or ethyl and h is 1-3, 2 and X are O or S, R 3 , and when X is O, also R 2 is a group of the formula where R 4 is H, C 1-8 alkyl, C 5-6 cycloalkyl or α- methylbenzyl, R 5 is C 1-8 alkyl or C 5-6 cycloalkyl, R 6 is H or C 1-4 or R 4 and R 6 together are a butylene chain, and provided when R 4 is H, R 6 is alkyl and R 5 is located on the carbon atom ortho to the hydroxyl group and A is a covalent bond or C 1-8 alkylene or alkylidene. The compounds may be prepared by reacting the appropriate hydroxylphenylalkanoic acid or a halide, anhydride or lower alkyl ester thereof with an appropriate substituted propanol.
