Abstract

1528916 Dynamo-electric machines SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 20 Nov 1975 [29 Nov 1974] 51719/74 Heading H2A An electromagnetic device comprises two nested cylindrical members 10, 11 made of magnetic material, the two members having, on their opposing surfaces, ribs 12, 13 defined by helical threads which are two start or a multiple thereof, adjacent ribs on one member, 11 as shown, being of opposite polarity, the ribs 12 on the other member being similarly magnetized at any instant by windings located in the troughs between the ribs, the direction of current in the windings being changeable to cause relative axial movement of the two members 10, 11 in one direction or the other, there being stops to limit the axial movement. The ribs 13 may be permanently magnetized or may be magnetized by windings, Fig. 3, not shown, placed either in the troughs between the ribs 13 or on the ends of the ribs 12 of member 10. As shown, the ends of the ribs 12, 13 may act as stops limiting axial movement. Alternatively, special stops 22, Fig. 4 (not shown) may be provided.
