Abstract

1528621 Filling containers BASF AG and ERWIN BEHN VERPACKUNGSBEDARF GmbH 24 Sept 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 39085/75 Heading B8C A process for filling a flexible container, e.g. a valve bag 11, or a rigid container with free-flowing material comprises partially filling the container while it is suspended from a filling spout 10 in a natural position with its centre of gravity 5 lying directly below the spout, shifting the container at least once from said natural position, vibrating the container while in the shifted position, returning the container to its natural position and effecting further introduction of material. An apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a support plate 7 which is movable and vibratable through a system of levers fixed to a rotatable shaft 5. Upon actuation of a piston and cylinder assembly 9 the support plate 7 contacts and shifts the container and a plate 8 contacts a rotating eccentric 4 to cause vibration of the support plate and hence the contents of the container. When a valve bag filled by the apparatus is released from the spout 10, it slides down a shoot 12 and is contacted by the support plate 7 which strokes the valve of the bag closed. The apparatus may be incorporated in a weighing machine.
